6th Annual Mya Strong Softball Tournament Held at Prospect Meadows
October 24, 2024 | Angela Jordan
Seventy teams competed over the weekend of October 19 and 20 in the Mya Strong Softball Tournament to help raise funds for pediatric cancer patients and their families. Mya Gilchrist, a senior at Alburnett High School, started the fundraiser for, as she says, families that aren’t as lucky as her family.
Mya has battled brain cancer most of her life but that hasn’t stopped her from living each day to the fullest. Some years have been better for Mya, and she is able to play in the games. This year she led the groups in their annual dance and cheered on teams from a golf cart. She was invited to hit the first pitch in the CIK 08 versus Full Count 18U game and dropped a nice single into right field! This sixth-year event broke records in several ways: the 70 teams is a record number of participants and the event raised more than $30,000! It is always a weekend full of energy.
This was the fifth year that this tournament has been held at Prospect Meadows and we are proud supporters of Mya Strong.
