Eighty teams from eight states began flocking to Prospect Meadows Thursday morning for the start of the 17U WWBA North Championship by Perfect Game.
The tournament runs through Sunday with clubs from Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana and Colorado all seeking the top prize. There are 32 teams from Illinois, 20 from Wisconsin and 13 from Minnesota.
This is the third straight week for a major PG event at Prospect Meadows. It began during the last weekend in June, when 72 teams attended a pair of WWBA Elite Tournaments. It continued last week with 46 teams for a 4th of July holiday event, the largest field ever at Prospect Meadows for an Independence Day weekend.
All told, approximately 500 teams from 17 states will participate in tournaments here in June and July. Those events will bring about 18,000 people to the area, filling hotel rooms and spending time at local restaurants, shops and convenience stores.
