September 4, 2020 | Angela Jordan

Labor Day Article

A baseball team from Claremont, Calif., is headed to Iowa for the 2020 Midwest Labor Day Classics at Prospect Meadows this weekend. By one account, that’s a trip of exactly 1,772 miles as the crow flies.

The Bulldogs are traveling the farthest to get here, but they are not the only team that’s making a long journey to Marion.

A total of 81 clubs from eight states will be participating in the Perfect Game event, which features four age divisions for Freshmen, Sophomores, Underclass and Upperclass, ranging in age from 15-and-under through 18-and-under.

There are 28 teams from Wisconsin, 24 from Iowa, 18 from Minnesota, four apiece from Missouri and Illinois, and one each from California, Nebraska and South Dakota.

The bulk of the games will be played at Prospect Meadows, with games also scheduled at satellite locations at Cedar Falls High School, Don Bosco High School, Waterloo Columbus and Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo.

There are 17 teams in the Freshman bracket, 25 teams in the Sophomore division, 17 teams in the Underclass event and 22 teams in the Upperclass category.

The tournament begins Friday and runs through Monday, with pool play followed by the playoffs.

Fans can follow all the results at PerfectGame.org.
