Busy September continues at Prospect Meadows
September 24, 2020 | Angela Jordan
The month of September has been extremely busy at Prospect Meadows, thanks to four straight popular tournaments and mostly favorable weather.
The busy stretch began with 81 teams in the Midwest Labor Day Classics, 48 clubs in the PG Midwest Select Championships, 66 teams in the Kernels Foundation Championship last week and now 47 more teams in another PG Midwest Select Championships event this weekend.
That makes a total of 242 teams in four weeks. It’s been a welcome stretch at Prospect Meadows, which was closed for three months in March, April and May due to the COVID-19 pandemic and for several weeks in August following the derecho.
All four tournaments this month are sponsored by Perfect Game, which is the primary tenant at the facility.
Prospect Meadows will see plenty of action next month as well with the Mya Strong Softball Tournament Oct. 10-11, the Iowa All-Star Softball Tournament Oct. 16-18 and the Mount Mercy fall baseball league.
The PG Midwest Selection Championships this weekend begin Friday and run through Sunday. There are 24 teams in the 15U Freshman Division and 23 clubs in the 18U Upperclass Division. There will be pool play followed by playoffs.
The tournament has attracted teams from six states with 13 from Illinois, 12 from Iowa, nine from Wisconsin, six from Minnesota, six from Nebraska and one from South Dakota.
