Discover Living

Softball for the Individuals served at Discovery Living can be described as a hit out of the park and even better than a homerun. Members and staff of Discovery Living look forward to playing their weekly softball matches each year, and this can be found to be the reason for many smiling faces.
Discovery Living was founded in 1981 after local Linn County families searched desperately for a long-term plan for their intellectually disabled loved ones. The county had growing amounts of services, but small group homes were few and far between and often had lengthy waitlists. Members of the community along with the Knights of Columbus banded together to create Discovery Village, later renamed Discovery Living.
Today, Discovery Living serves over 150 adults within the community and has over 250 staff and caregivers. Discovery aims to be a caregiver for life and has numerous individuals who have been with the company for more than 20 years. In addition to their 30+ group homes, the company also provides multiple day programs for their clients and works hard to maintain members’ autonomy and quality of life.
Discovery Living and Prospect Meadows partnered in 2019 after concerns rose about an even, equal, and safe playing experience for these individuals. Two games are played weekly on the Miracle Field every Tuesday from June to August. These softball matches have become a beacon of light not only for the members of Discovery Living, but also for the staff, families, and the community.
Games are played with modified rules, staff on the field, and fun team names; in the world of Discovery Living Softball. All players get to hit, strikeouts are uncommon, and staff provide encouragement at all positions.
Prospect Meadows is pleased to host Discovery Living softball at the Miracle Field. Fans may catch a game or two on Tuesday nights throughout June and July; games begin at 5:30.
