This summer, Prospect Meadows is excited to welcome Luke Efting to the team! Luke is an Iowa native from Cedar Rapids and is heading into his senior year at the University of Northern Iowa. He’s pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration with a minor in Business Communication. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Luke enjoys football, baseball, and track. All are sports he also competed in during high school. His athletic career was highlighted by winning a state championship in the 4x100m relay. He’s a proud fan of all Chicago sports teams and especially cheers for the Cubs and Bears. A fun fact about Luke: he has an identical twin brother, John, who also attends UNI. When asked why he chose to work at Prospect Meadows, Luke shared, “The Miracle League and its identity really stood out to me. Not many places have something like it—it’s pretty cool and caught my eye.” He also mentioned that the opportunity offers valuable hands-on experience and is a great step toward his goal of working in professional sports.

Joining the Prospect Meadows team this summer is another intern, Makenna Sheehan! Makenna is also from the Cedar Rapids area and attends the University of Iowa. She is going into her junior year where she will double major in Marketing and Leadership Management within the Tippie College of Business. Makenna competitively danced throughout her life and loves to listen to music, specifically SZA and Frank Ocean. Driven by her passion for exploring new places and cultures, Makenna is excited to study abroad in Europe in the spring of 2026- a step toward her goal of one day traveling the world. Makenna worked here previously in concessions and says that she loves the events that give back to the community; both key factors into why she chose to intern at PM. When asked about her internship, she shared, “I’ve always loved baseball, and this is a great way to gain experience in the sports industry. Plus, the people here make it such a fun and welcoming place to work!” Her future goals are to work in a professional sports league such as the NFL or MLB.

Another intern joining the team for the summer is Shen Groppel! Shen is not an Iowa native but comes across state lines from Algonquin, Illinois. He is also going into his third year at the University of Iowa double majoring in Finance, and Sports and Recreation Management. Shen was born in Shenzhen China and adopted into the states at 3 years old. The first two things his father taught him were to shake hands and throw a football. Ever since then, he has been a die-hard Chicago Bears fan. At the age of 12 with his father, Shen summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. “I think that the people here are great, and I am excited to get hands on experience in the sports field,” Shen said when asked about why he took an internship at PM. He also plans to go to law school after graduating and wants to work in a professional league whether that be the NFL, NHL, or NBA.
