Strike Out the Stigma: Promoting Mental Health Awareness Through Baseball and Softball

June 24, 2025 | Kyle Schrader

Strike out the Stigma Recap Story

Prospect Meadows hosted the third annual Strike Out the Stigma event on Monday, May 12th! This year, sixteen teams participated in the scrimmage—eight baseball teams and eight softball teams—from across Eastern Iowa.

In addition to the on-field action, players and spectators had the chance to engage in mindfulness activities and connect with local organizations that offered valuable information on mental health, suicide awareness and prevention, substance abuse, eating disorders, and overall wellness. Nearly 1,000 fans attended the event, which also featured a silent auction to raise additional funds. Gabe Rummel, a mental performance coach with Athletes Health, delivered a powerful speech highlighting the importance of mental health in sports and shared practical strategies for supporting athletes’ mental well-being.

Prospect Meadows is proud to collaborate with nonprofit organizations that are making a meaningful impact in our community. Through events like Strike Out the Stigma, we not only help raise vital funds – but also bring much-needed awareness to important issues.
All proceeds from ticket sales went directly to support mental health awareness efforts, helping fund important programs, and resources in the community.

We’re honored to support this mission and create a space where athletes, families, and community members can come together for education, conversation, and connection. Congratulations to Strike Out the Stigma on another successful event! We’re already looking forward to next year!
